The Salvatore bros make up
Just when it seemed like Elena (Nina Dobrev) had come between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) for good, the Salvatores realize how lucky they are — they have each other. Damon says Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) was all Elena had left to care about. “She had you,” Stefan counters. “I’m not enough. Not this time,” replies Damon. Before Stefan can even apologize, Damon forgives him.
Damon tells Elena to turn off her emotions
As soon as the realization sinks in that Jeremy is gone forever, Elena breaks. She sobs, “They’re all dead. … There’s nothing left for me.” Nothing anyone says is getting through to her. “It hurts. Please make it stop,” she begs. Stefan asks his brother to help her. Using the sire bond, Damon helps the only way he can. “Turn it off. Just turn it off, and everything will go away,” he tells Elena. Suddenly, her face goes blank.
Elena burns her house to the ground
An unemotional Elena looks at a broken frame containing a photo of herself and Jeremy. Her emotions are on mute, and she has no problem covering up her brother’s death with a fire now. “We can find another cover story,” Stefan says. “Look, if you burn down the house, it will be gone. What if one day, when this is all over, you want to come home again?” Her reply? “I won’t.” She drops the match and walks out the door. The last images are of Jeremy’s shoes and sketches going up in flames. 
Bonnie reveals the veil
So, let us get this straight. All Bonnie (Kat Graham) has to do to complete the Expression triangle is kill 12 people, then vampire purgatory will be abolished? Sounds simple enough. But if that happens, “every supernatural being over there is back with a vengeance,” according to Damon. Oh. Look, we really miss Jeremy and Alaric (Matt Davis), but that veil sounds pretty important. Remember what happened when just a few ghosts crossed over? 
Silas is Shane is Silas
Silas is some kind time-traveling demon/astral projection. First, Shane (David Alpay) was talking intensely to Bonnie outside of her house, saying, “We’ll do this together. You and I. We are the beginning.” It was kind of creepy, but nothing too out of the ordinary for Shane — except that he got off that island pretty fast. Then we see Rebekah (Claire Holt), still in Canada, tripping over Shane’s body. What?! The prof grabs her foot and whispers, “Silas.” This is a whole different kind of doppelganger!
